Evaluation of direct shear strength of self-consolidating and conventional concretes

ABSTRACT The self-consolidating concrete presents properties that improve the constructive process, it has main characteristic of flowing under its own weight and completely filling formwork, without need compaction. However, uncertainty about shear strength, due to differences in coarse aggregate volume size this compared conventional vibrated concrete, is one barriers acceptance. Self-consolidating mixtures requires generally reduction content addition fines materials obtain flowability particles directly influences mechanism interlock. In work, two mixtures, self-consolidating, were used for casting test specimens, submitted direct test, order evaluate strength these concretes. results showed a self-compacting attributed use with smaller particle size, reduced larger mixture. experimental equations proposed literature, demonstrating underestimate ultimate strengths. Thus, work contributes formation database aiming establishment estimate strength.
